During fashion week (or month), I usually get most of my inspiration by seeing the street style from the editors and bloggers and rarely invest much time or effort in catching up on the shows (but I'm sure it would be a completely different story if I actually attended the shows). I have never really wrapped my head around the fact that at the end of winter, when I am so excited to start wearing some spring/summer items, the designers are showing their collections for the next winter! I feel like in the crazy modern world of technology, when everything is so instantaneous, surely we don't need to wait 6 whole months before we start wearing (or in my case, dreaming about wearing) these collections. In some ways, I feel it would make more sense if the collections that are currently been shown were the spring/summer ones. Think about the pros; it would mean that the high street would have a much harder time to copy the collections, it would take longer for "trends" to fruition, therefore, perhaps make everyone dress more creatively or dress for style and elegance over "fashion".
Of course, the designers have to come into it all too though, since they are the ones who have to make the collections and if they were only showing their spring/summer collections now then I don't even want to know how stressful it would be for them trying to get their collections out within a week or two after the show! Plus, there's the whole tradition and nostalgia of the February shows being the A/W collections and the September shows being the S/S ones. I don't know, what do you think? Do you reckon it would ever change? I suppose it in some ways it has with the Pre-Fall and Resort collections becoming more and more relevant.
All that being said....THIS season I have been much more diligent with my following of the actual collections and not just the street style. And after sharing my favourites from New York fashion week, here are my faves from London. Loving so much of it that I kinda wish we could skip spring and head straight back into autumn. You see, this is what happens when they show their collections so super early. Craziness occurs!

LFW is close to being my favourite, I think! I loved the heart motif at Burberry, and Mulberry and Erdem are both gorgeous. Living in Australia is kind of funny with the timing of the shows... although it's going into winter, the shops are generally selling 'trends' from last year's shows. But I must admit that it is nice to be able to look at the collections and think to myself that I can get all inspired by them and wear cold-weather clothing in just a month or two!

I loved everything in the Burberry and Mulberry shows; they are always stand outs for me. It is kind of crazy though how we trends coming up in a years' time and even further away here in Australia! xx
ReplyDeleteI thought Burberry did a STUNNING job.
