Before coming back home, I had a massive list of everything that I wanted to bake with my mum and cook with my dad. But since actually being here, there hasn't been any time to do either. That was until today, when George and I had a full free day and night to be able to tick the first thing off my list, which was making homemade pasta.
It's such a fun way to spend a morning/afternoon (it pretty much takes up most of your day - especially a winter's day) and it is such a sense of accomplishment when it's finished and you get to taste it. Even though it is quite time consuming, it's actually really easy to make, especially when using a pasta maker (the recipe we used was one which just used a rolling pin which looks way harder).
I used: 2 eggs with 200g pasta flour. Pouring the flour onto a clear bench and making a well before cracking the eggs into it and whisking. Then I folded it all in together, kneading it with the palm of my hand until it was a smooth ball. Then comes the pasta maker part and for this part I just used the instructions which came with it and it came out really well. (Very vague instructions, I know...I'm too lazy to get up and read the cook book haha but I followed the recipe in this cookbook)
Spending a rainy day cooking away in the kitchen is definitely one of the littlest things which makes me so incredibly happy.

That looks like so much fun! I want a pasta maker now.
ReplyDeleteI got my husband a pasta maker for his birthday last year and we've had some good food ever since! It's a lot of work but i think it makes it that much better!
ReplyDeleteThat is SOOOO cool! I never even considered making my own! I thought it was like making chocolate... something to leave to the masters.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm itching to try it.
I agree, nothing is more satisfying than making your own pasta. Ravioli is my weakness, stuffing them with all the things you love is just such fun!
ReplyDeleteDelicous. Homemade pasta is the only way to go. Thanks for the idea. Is that your pasta maker? My Mom has a really old one but I find the new ones aren't as good.
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar, albeit antique, pasta maker, and I love watching my hubby get in touch with his Italian roots and make homemade pasta. It is such a treat, and if you take the time to make a bunch of noodles, you can freeze the leftovers and have it for later. Great job! :)
ReplyDeleteI think making my own pasta would be so fun! I definitely want to try it some days. yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteEven though it's summer here, your pasta looks fantastic! I'd eat it any day of the year. Sounds like a fun daytime activity!
ReplyDeleteYou make it look and sound SO easy!!!! And so delish too :)
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of the UK, may I say that we miss you :) And I hear that ASOS is missing you too ;) xx

ReplyDeleteThis looks so yummy and cozy! I couldn't agree with you more. Getting an entire day to cook is amazing, but for now I savor the hour after I get home from work cooking in the kitchen with the Boy while enjoying a glass of wine and laughing at our pup trying every possible means for food tidbits.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so delicious ! I have the machine to do it but I still haven't got any time to make it ! Thank's for sharing ! Check out : http://nothinlasts.blogspot.com/
