However, chaos isnt over yet. Seeing as my visa is in my passport, i have lost that too. So if i were to leave the UK, when i were to come back in, i would be granted a visitor and not be able to work or apply for a new visa. I would have to leave the country and apply for a visa and only return once my visa has been approved. But since we were both dying to go to Paris and were so disappointed we werent able to go this weekend, I spent the whole afternoon on the phone to visa people, immigration people at both St Pancras international station and Paris' international station asking if it would be alright if i were to leave for a weekend and still be able to come back into the UK with a visa and not as a visitor. Eventually, I got somewhere and it has been sorted that we can go to Paris this coming thursday and return to the UK saturday evening and i will be granted entry with a visa (woo) as long as i had enough documentation to prove that i was previously under the Youth Mobility Scheme visa. So afternoon was spent getting as much proof as possible and also getting new passport photos taken.
We finally got back home at around 3pm where I went straight to bed (as i still hadnt had any sleep since arriving at 7.30am the day before) and didnt wake up until 8am this morning.
So instead of being in Paris this saturday night, George and I are watching Take me out at home while eating some indian. I suppose this could have been worse - i could have lost my passport before even getting to London and would have had to wait even longer to see George. There is always a bright side.
However, the moral of the story: DON'T LEAVE YOUR PASSPORT IN THE BACK OF A TAXI.
I'll be back properly from now on, I miss checking out all your blogs way too much!

Oh my goodness!!! What a day, I couldn't imagine.
ReplyDeleteI was flying somewhere in Europe from the US, and had a connecting flight in london. I left my passport on the first flight and hopped off and went to catch the second flight, then I noticed. I told someone who immediately started running towards the gate of the first plane, and was able to retrieve it! It was such a blessing. I am glad you are able to still see paris! But my oh my, the chaos passports can cause! : )
omg sounds like the most stressful day ever! Shame you didn't get to go to Paris, but as you said, at least you're with George! xxx

ReplyDeleteoh but the passport part, i do NOT like. scary.
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteI just randomly stumbled onto your blog as I am in exactly exactly the same position! I just lost my passport and I am on the youth mobility scheme. Could you help me with what steps I would need to take and how much it'd cost? I am also from Australia, Sydney and trying to survive here in the UK. I am on the verge of getting a job too and am a little worried about not having my passport with Visa.
If you could hit me up at mark.crocker@gmail.com I would really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Mark.
