"No matter how your relationship is defined, your mother - present, absent - leaves the biggest footprint on your life. She inhabits you, she defines you."
Elle December 2010
The other day while on the bus I read the most beautiful article/memoir in December Elle about the bond between mother and daughter. It asked the question: What comes to mind when you think of your mother? My answer: I honestly dont know what I would do without my beautiful mum. She is my best friend in the whole entire world.
George getting a job is so incredibly amazing but it also means the next few years of our lives will be located in London. Not that I have anything against that (as you know, I loveee london) but it means I will be away from my good old muggsie moochoo (mums nickname haha). So this post is dedicated to my best friend, my role model, and my mum:
(the whole fam in melbourne jan 2010)
"No one will ever care quite as much about whether you take your vitamins, whether you get enough sleep, whether you're getting too thin. You'll take your mother for granted because she lets you, because you know she'll always forgive you. But if you're lucky enough to have a good one - and many of us do - count every single one of your lucky stars. She's your history, your future, and she's got your back."

This is so beautiful and sweet! <3
ReplyDeleteLovely post and I feel the same about my Mum. Well done you for being the other side of the world from her as I am not sure I could manage it. I used to think that when I grew up I would stop needing her so much and now, the ripe age of 36 I still need her. Does that mean we never truly grow up or that she is a special mummy? Or both? Lou x
ReplyDeleteSoph that really is beautiful. Mothers are often such unappreciated beings. Gorgeous photos and I think she looks just like Pam in the second one! Good luck with your new life in London. Hopefully you can pop over to New York one day and we can take you both out on the town. Jack xoxox

Dear Sophie,
ReplyDeleteAs someone who's known your mum for a very long time I cannot but agree wholeheartedly with what you have written. She is a truly amazing person. Keeping in mind that we daughters often become like our mothers, what an amazing future you have before you.
